When in Verona… Restaurants

Earlier this year (2008), the Guardian wrote a travel article about the city of Verona, after Venice the most beautiful and romantic city in the region of Veneto, in Northern Italy. Since I am sure the Guardian is much more venerable and knowledgeable than I am, I humbly follow their advice as to what are the most important Verona tourist attractions, restaurants and night life spots.

Night spots – eating

Verona is in a mountain area and its citizens accordingly believe in eating well, so be prepared for big portions. A lunch menu will generally set you back between 12 and 15 Euros, but it will be worth it since it will easily keep you going until dinner.

Osteria del Duca – (Via Arche Scaligere 2; 00 39 045 594 474) – for a romantic meal next door to Romeo’s palazzo
Osteria Vecchia Fontanina – (Piazzetta Chiavica 5; 00 39 045 595 159)
Osteria al Carro Armato – (Vicolo Gatto 2; 00 39 045 803 0175) – locals and tourists fraternize around wooden communal tables
Il Desco – (Via dietro di San Sebastiano 7; 00 39 045 595 358), two Michelin stars, seven-course tasting menu 125 Euros.
Al Cristo – (Piazzetta Pescheria 6; 00 39 045 594 287, €50), designer decor with fusion cuisine

The room was comfortable, clean and airy and the bathroom (which was almost as big as the bedroom) was fabulous with tiled floors, a powerful shower, loads of big fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries. (anonymous,Venere.com)

My husband liked the blinds that could be operated without getting out of bed, the mini bar and the powerful shower. (Anonymous)

We had a room at the front of the hotel. It was spacious, very clean and comfortable. We slept like babies. (Marles, UK)

This is the cleanest, brightest, happiest, freshest-feeling hotel that I have experienced in Italy. A great value. (CP, USA, on Venere.com)

Our family-room was not that big ( European average size , anyway ) , but had all the amenities and most important very clean. (Augustin, USA)
