When in Verona… Restaurants

Earlier this year (2008), the Guardian wrote a travel article about the city of Verona, after Venice the most beautiful and romantic city in the region of Veneto, in Northern Italy. Since I am sure the Guardian is much more venerable and knowledgeable than I am, I humbly follow their advice as to what are the most important Verona tourist attractions, restaurants and night life spots.   Night spots – eating Verona is in a mountain area and its citizens accordingly believe in eating well, so be prepared for big portions. A lunch menu will generally set you back between 12 and 15 Euros, but it will be worth it since it will easily keep you going until dinner. Osteria del Duca – (Via Arche Scaligere 2; 00 39 045 594 474) – for a romantic meal next door to Romeo’s palazzo Osteria Vecchia Fontanina – (Piazzetta Chiavica 5; 00 39 045 595 159) Osteria al Carro Armato – (Vicolo Gatto 2; 00 39 045 803 0175) – locals and tourists fraternize around wooden communal tables Il Desco – (Via dietro di San Sebastiano 7; 00 39 045 595 358), two Michelin stars, seven-course tasting menu 125 Euros. The room was comfortable, clean and airy and the bathroom (which was almost as big as the bedroom) was fabulous with tiled floors, a powerful shower, loads of big fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries. (anonymous,Venere.com)
